HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUNGARY!

On August 20th Hungary celebrates St. Stephen's Day - Hungarian National Holiday in honour of King Stephen, the first king of Hungary.

1018 years since the founding of his kingdom! This is both a religious and national holiday, as Stephen is also a canonized saint. Today is also the feast day for Hungarian men with the name of István (Stephen). August 20th is marked by a procession bearing his hand preserved in a reliquary, along with ceremonial bread (meant to mark the results of the first harvest). The evening sees spectacular fireworks displays in Budapest!
