🍇✨ Raise a Glass to International Pinot Noir Day! ✨🍇

Few grapes have a story as rich (or as delicious) as Pinot Noir. One of the world’s oldest cultivated varieties, it’s the beating heart of Burgundy and has inspired winemakers across the globe — from France to California and beyond.

What makes Pinot Noir so special?

🌍 A true traveller – equally at home in Burgundy’s limestone soils as in California’s coastal vineyards.

🍒 Aromatic and expressive – bursting with cherries, berries, spice, and subtle earthiness.

🍽️ Utterly versatile – just as happy alongside roast turkey at Christmas as it is lightly chilled with a summer al fresco supper in August.

To celebrate, we’ve chosen two stand-out Pinots from our range:

🍷 2022 Pinot Noir, Cartlidge & Brown – North Coast, California

Bold cherries, raspberries and blackberries, layered with vanilla meringue and toasty oak. A Californian classic with roots in Napa’s original “garagiste” movement. Juicy, firm, and full of personality.

🍷 Savigny-Les-Beaune 1er Cru ‘Les Serpentières’, Maurice Ecard – Burgundy

A benchmark Burgundy. Red fruits, blackcurrant, a whisper of coffee, and refined oak. Elegant texture, layered depth, and superb value from a legendary domaine.

Whether you’re toasting summer evenings or planning ahead for festive feasts, Pinot Noir is the year-round companion your cellar deserves.

📍 Find both wines now at Baythorne Wines – celebrate Pinot Noir Day in style.

🍇 Just Landed at Baythorne Wines 🍷

Notteri Vermentino di Sardegna – Cantina Castiadas

Direct from the sunny coasts of southeast Sardinia — our latest white from Cantina Castiadas! This vibrant Vermentino is shaped by breezy granite-sandy soils and a traditional coastal style.

✨ Tasting Notes
Pale straw with green reflections, bright and luminous. Aromas of citrus zest, white peach, green apple, floral blossoms, aromatic herbs, and a hint of apricot. On the palate it’s soft and sensuous with lively freshness. A seam of mineral character balances the plush texture, with stone fruit flavours carrying into a clean, refreshing finish.

This wine is crafted with a delicate cold maceration, followed by fermentation of the free-run juice and 60 days ageing on fine lees, then rested in stainless steel tanks for almost a year before release.

🍽️ Food Pairing Guide
Pairs beautifully with seafood delights — think shellfish, fish crudi, Mediterranean first courses, or even pesto pasta and risotto. Its texture also makes it a luxe match for rich and creamy dishes — pan-seared salmon with herb butter, creamy chicken, or goat-cheese pasta.

Why We Love It
Not just a wine, but a real taste of Sardinia’s soul — elegant yet grounded, with a soft crunch of minerality that feels coastal and distinctive. Perfect for those moments when you want style with substance.

🌊⛵ International Rum Day – Set Sail with Ron Larimar 🥃☀️

Mark has just returned from a week sailing the Adriatic in Croatia, and when the clock struck cocktail hour, there was one bottle he was especially pleased to have packed: Ron Larimar Oloroso Sherry Cask Finish 5 Year Old Rum.

Thankfully, the seas and skies were anything but dark and stormy!

This beautifully crafted Dominican rum is double matured for richness and depth: five years in American oak, then finished in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks from Andalucía.

The result?

✨ Christmassy spice
✨ Dried apricot & plump raisin
✨ Chocolate-coated cherry
✨ A smooth, nutty finish

It’s a stunning sipper as the sun sets, but equally brilliant mixed into a Rum Old Fashioned.

🍊✨ Meet Orange Wine — and see what all the buzz is about! ✨🍊

This weekend at Baythorne Wines, dive into the captivating world of orange wine.

Petit Sauvage Orange – Pierre & Antonin, Languedoc - a dramatic, skin-contact white made from Souvignier Gris, boasting spicy, aromatic notes of clove, orange peel, white flowers, and wild herbs — plus a whisper of tannin for structure.

What is orange wine?
It’s white wine made more like a red — with the grape skins left in contact during fermentation. This imparts an amber hue, texture, and complexity that set it apart.

Why is it trending?
Rooted in ancient winemaking traditions, orange wine is experiencing a modern comeback — spurred by the natural wine movement, social media, and adventurous palates chasing unique, unfiltered flavour.

Pop in and sample something bold, historic, and deliciously different.

🍷 Mark’s Wine of the Week

Jurançon Sec – Domaine Corty, South West France

This week, Mark’s taking us to the foothills of the Pyrenees, where the mountain breezes and Atlantic influence create the perfect playground for two local stars: Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng.

💫 The Wine
Crisp, vibrant and refreshingly pure, this dry Jurançon bursts with lemon, grapefruit, peach and apricot aromas. The palate? Zesty and textured, with layers of stone fruit and citrus riding on a clean, mineral backbone. A perfect “glass-in-hand” wine for sunny afternoons.

🌱 About the Grapes & Region

Gros Manseng brings lively acidity and citrus lift.

Petit Manseng adds tropical richness and aromatic depth.
Together, they thrive on the steep, sunlit slopes of Jurançon, a small appellation tucked between the Pyrenees and the Atlantic in South West France.

🍯 A Sweet Side Note
While this bottle is sec (dry), Jurançon is also famed for its late-harvest sweet wines—made from Petit Manseng grapes left to over-ripen on the vine, developing honeyed, exotic fruit flavours balanced by racy acidity. Louis XIV was famously given a drop at his baptism!

🏡 The Producer
Domaine Corty is a small, quality-focused winery dedicated to capturing the essence of its terroir. Specialising in the Manseng grapes, they craft wines that are fresh, expressive, and unmistakably Jurançon.

🍽️ Perfect Pairings
🥗 Grilled fish with lemon & herbs
🍤 Prawns or scallops
🧀 Soft cheeses like goat’s cheese or young brie
🥦 Summer veg risotto

Fresh, elegant, and brimming with Pyrenean charm — this is South West France in a glass.

🍇 Just Landed at Baythorne Wines 🍷

Le Peewit Sauvignon Gris 2024 – Côtes de Gascogne

Something new from the sun-soaked hills of southwest France! This Sauvignon Gris is fresh, elegant, and full of personality. Aromas of white peach and apple blossom lead into a juicy, zesty palate that’s impossible to resist.

✨ About the Grape
Sauvignon Gris is a rare cousin of Sauvignon Blanc, originally from Bordeaux. Its slightly pinkish skin gives the wine a richer texture and aromatic complexity, while still retaining the bright, refreshing acidity that makes Sauvignon wines so versatile.

✨ Tasting Notes
Crisp and lively, with notes of pear, peach, and a hint of blackcurrant bud. The finish is zesty and refreshing — perfect for sipping on its own or with food.

🍽️ Food Pairings
Pairs beautifully with grilled fish, roast chicken, light salads, creamy cheeses, or fresh seafood dishes.

Each winter, the Peewit (Northern Lapwing) migrates from the UK to the stunningly temperate Gascony region, where these aromatic grapes are grown. A wine with both story and style!

🥂✨ International Prosecco Day — All Week Long at Baythorne! ✨🥂

This Wednesday, 13 August, the world raised a glass for International Prosecco Day — but why limit the sparkle to just one day? With this sunshine, we’re celebrating all week long!

🌟 On the pour at Baythorne:

1️⃣ Prosecco Spumante, Ponte Villoni – Crisp, dry, and bursting with orchard fruits, lifted by a lively fizz that makes every sip feel like a mini celebration.

2️⃣ Prosecco Rosé, Ponte Villoni – About 10% Pinot Nero gives it that delicate blush colour and subtle summer berry charm.

💡 Prosecco Facts You Might Not Know:

The Glera grape has been grown in Veneto for centuries, but “Prosecco” was once the name of a small village.

Only certain areas of Italy can legally produce Prosecco — and the bubbles come from the Charmat method, keeping things fresh and fruity.

Prosecco Rosé must spend at least 60 days on the lees to get its fine mousse and delicate flavour.

🍽 Unexpected pairing for warm evenings:

Try Prosecco with prosciutto-wrapped melon & fresh mint — the salty-sweet combo is a game-changer with those bright bubbles.

📍 Pick up your bottles in-store or online at Baythorne Wines, and let’s toast to a sparkling week ahead.
