Jude is thrilled with her wonderful mandala handmade by the super talented Sadie . She put it in its rightful place as soon as she got home from the island. I can see how she saw it in our window and it spoke to her. It looks perfect… like it was commissioned for that exact space. 😍 Thanks for the photos Jude.

We had our first trip to a boutique today called Artemis and The Mermaid in Ventnor and found some lovely things to go on my Shelf of Treasures.
The ladies were so kind and friendly and had so many beautiful things that it was hard to chose my favourites to bring home 😍

It’s Mermaid Monday. 🧜‍♀️ We’ve got lots of lovely mermaidy stuff in the shop for all you thalassophiles. 🧜‍♀️ Check out this gorgeous hand-stitched artwork in a huge 23 x 29” frame. This beautiful mermaid has been painstakingly cross-stitched and beaded by someone very creative with infinite patience. She’s £150 ovno. And of course we have lots of lovely jewellery. 🧜‍♀️

Nice little haul from Ventnor beach yesterday evening after work. Mostly very small pieces but a lovely spectrum of colours. I also met Tina who was seaglass hunting at the other end of the beach. I love the quality of the seaglass at Ventnor, it’s always well tumbled by the sea and shingle, no spiky or rough edges. 💙

The window has been redressed with some new hand makes. A beautiful asymmetrical crocheted scarf / shawl in shades of teal - fit for the most stylish mermaid. I love the fact it’s sail shaped. ⛵️ A hand knitted jacket in lavenders and greens with an eyecatching Vectis wheel (Dorset) button. A sparkly knitted scarf in pinks, greens and purple. We also have a selection of hand crocheted scrunchies and other jackets, scarves and shawls as well as all our cute critters. ☺️

This beautiful crocheted work of art is leaving the island tomorrow and heading north to its new home in Lincolnshire. It’s been wonderful having it in the window and hopefully we’ll have another at some point… from the talented hook at . 💚

Balls! Quartz balls! Or “spheres” would be a better word. ☺️ These amazing natural quartz spheres are fairly small but contain the most wonderful rainbows. 🌈 And, is it just me, or is that Whitby Abbey inside one of them? £5.99 each. The larger quartz spheres have less clarity but some beautiful inclusions. They are £2.50 to £4.50 each.

The shop is closed Tuesday (today) and Wednesday (tomorrow) this week. Our Monday is your Friday. And our Thursday is your Monday. 🤪
But when we’re open there are often conversations like this going on:
“Do you have a raw quartz pendant?”
“No, but if you come back in half an hour I will have.”
*scuttles off to drill a hole in a piece of raw quartz, adds a sterling silver jump ring, solders ring, polishes ring with a brass brush, adds to corded necklace.*
Ta da! There are advantages to buying your jewellery from a shop that is run by an actual jewellery maker. ☺️

There’s been a lot going on recently in the background. But I’ve made some time to do some silversmithing. When stones are this gorgeous it’s got to be done. 😍 Hand fabricated sterling silver pendants with labradorite, moonstone, rutilated (angel hair) quartz and malachite. One of my lovely customers has first dibs on a pendant of her choosing, then the others will be available. From £47.50 to £66.50. Which is your favourite?

So how do we feel about mad coloured gemstones?! Almost all coloured “obsidian” is just glass masquerading as a natural gemstone. I’ve even had a wholesaler insist that lumps of glass were natural obsidian. Bright shimmery “aura quartz” is, however, a natural gemstone combined with a metallic powder, applied with heat and pressure, to create an unnatural looking stone but one that is actually a mashup of two organic materials. Some people are very sniffy about aura coated quartz and I’m not sure why. Okay it didn’t come out of the ground like that but considering many, many “natural” gemstones have been enhanced before they reach the market, it seems a little sniffy to me. Me? I never met a gemstone I didn’t like. 😉

Congratulations to Molly and Elliot who got married just a few days ago. Molly fell for this gorgeous sparkly CZ ‘amethyst’ and ‘diamond’ ring as it matched one of their wedding colours. 💜
