Can’t remember a trip across on the ferry at such a high tide …

Proper high tide on Sunday evening, crossing King Harry from the Philleigh side. Coming down the hill I thought there was a crane or something parked up at the bottom, only to discover the ferry was right up on the road. I would have taken a shot of that only, obviously, we had timed it to within a nanosecond of it leaving (yes, we frequently miss it completely 🙄).

Posting anything with slight trepidation after my last reel - probably the closest Evocative Cornwall is ever going to get to going viral!! It has been suggested that for our next calendar we should ditch the views of Cornwall and instead do a ‘men at work’ special! Not sure I’m brave enough 😬

Love crossing the ferry, another mainstay of my life. Beach days as a child, and then with my own kids, ensure it always feels like a good day when I use it. Anyone else childish enough to race to the back of the ferry to watch the fish in the slip stream as you set off on either side? Summer time only, and invariably slightly more on the Feock side …

The strangest things can make you happy … watching the dredging at Truro this morning was ridiculously satisfying.

I grew up on one of the tidal creeks nearby and the awful smell, the smear of the brown mud into the grey/black below and the wonderful squelching sucking sounds are so nostalgic. (Playing on the mud is extremely dangerous kids - never a good idea.)

I know dredging in other places is extremely controversial at the moment and there are valid points on both sides. But I think pretty much everyone is happy to see this bit of the Truro river dredged aren’t they?

My kind of staircase!

Obviously over edited (I hope!) but there is something pretty magical about this staircase on the footpath near St Loy. A busy day delivering stock into our lovely retail partners down West, but always looking for a moment to enjoy where we are lucky enough to be.

I’m sure I used to be able to add sparkles to images … feel this one could take a few … 🤣

We are so lucky in Cornwall to have so much on our doorstep! A quick snap from Friday evening as musicians arrive for the International Musicians Seminar concert in the chapel at Trelowarren. And then a shot from yesterday, across National Dahlia Collection to Mabe Church.

The National Dahlia Collection is now settled into its new home, beside Mabe Church and overlooking Argal Reservoir. Open Friday - Sunday until the end of October it is a lovely spot to sit and enjoy a coffee (served on site) after you have perused the astonishing collection. I had no idea Dahlias had been developed in quite such exciting ways, and it is hard not to wonder if you should have more of them in your own garden. Probably worth another trip while I’m considering …!

Probably, as with your children, you shouldn’t have favourites, particularly if you pull together a calendar of fabulous photographs from talented professionals! So, now we’ve got that out of the way, suffice to say that we really, really like this one. For me, it could probably go in the calendar every year … but of course I would never do that, consummate professional that I am (🤣).

Luckily there are many really gifted people out there, honing their craft in all weathers to bring us the very best of Cornish landscape photography each year … and we can’t thank them all enough. But .pete we loved this one soooo much that we bent one of our rules just the tiniest bit to include it in the 2026 calendar, so probably just as well we haven’t done that next year too.

What rule is that? The ability to look at one of the Evocative Cornwall photographs and ‘know’ it’s in Cornwall (assuming you’re a dyed in the wool Kernowphile that is). I think you’d need to know your surfers/breaks really well to be able to do that here - in which case, hats off to you.

We just thing it’s the coolest image, and really evocative of Cornwall.

Found myself on Bodmin moor, so took advantage and had a wander with the camera. But since I can’t post any of those for a bit, here’s one from my phone, slightly edited in a gloomy multi-storey car park wearing the wrong glasses ……
