A fantastic day on the Stable Comments, with several winners of which MAHO BAY (7/2) in the big race of the day was surely the highlight.

A cracking result at 7/2 and another clear example of the value provided by the Stable Comments and not just the tips themselves.

HAS ALMERAQ JUST ENDED THE DEBATE ABOUT WHO BRITAIN’S BEST SPRINTER IS?

He absolutely blew the Sprint Cup apart, winning by more than four lengths, and that came after already proving himself at the highest level at Royal Ascot.

Yes, he disappointed in the July Cup. Yes, the testing ground at Haydock may have exaggerated the winning margin.

So who are you putting above him right now — and what has that horse done this season to deserve it?

THUNDER CALL bolts up in the opener at Ascot for members. Here's what they were told:

"Thunder Call was a major eye-catcher when 2nd over 6f at Ascot on Shergar Cup day, travelling into his race nicely , but just given too much ground to make up by his jockey with the more prominently ridden Red Spells Danger. Everything about that effort suggested the extra furlong he now gets today ought to suit. A 2lb to 93 still looks very workable on the strength of his previous Newmarket form, which has been repeatedly boosted with the runner-up (Calico Blue) going down by only a short head in Listed company, while the 3rd and 5th both won next time out. William Haggas’ c**t now faces older horses for the first time, but he is progressing much faster than most of them and, simply put, if he sees out this extra furlong he’ll be tough to beat".

This horse shouldn't be 16/1 and here's why...

Blue RC in the 16.48 at Ascot is very interesting back over the same C&D as his excellent 2nd in the Royal Hunt Cup in June. He was beaten just a length there by Rogue Diplomat, with Indalo back in third, and that form has worked out exceptionally well. Rogue Diplomat has since stepped into Group 2 company and finished only a neck behind Lake Forest in the Lennox Stakes, while Indalo came out and won a valuable Class 2 handicap at Sandown.

His latest run here was clearly disappointing, but that was the first real backward step following a sequence of excellent efforts in strong handicaps, having also finished second in the All-Weather Championships Mile at Newcastle and the Thirsk Hunt Cup earlier in the season.

He is only 4lbs higher than for that Royal Hunt Cup second and a repeat of anything close to that performance would put him right in the thick of this. Back at Ascot over the straight mile, he looks too big a price!

HOSEKI (6/4) digs deep and repels Hollywell Stream to make amends for the poor ride she was given at Ascot.

IS HORSE RACING BECOMING A PLAYGROUND FOR THE SUPER-RICH?

Sale prices keep climbing, six-figure yearlings are becoming increasingly normal and the top end of the sport seems to operate in a completely different world.

There will always be wealthy owners in racing, but is the gap now getting too big?

If ownership, syndicates and even simply following the sport become increasingly expensive, racing risks becoming something ordinary people watch rather than something they genuinely feel part of.

Is horse racing becoming a sport for the super-rich?

That will probably upset a few people — but I think his reputation is having a huge influence on the way the market has shaped for the September Stakes

HAS BRITISH RACING COMPLETELY LOST ITS HEAD OVER CONSTITUTION HILL?

He’s a brilliant horse, but does every move he makes really deserve this level of coverage — or are we stretching one ageing superstar’s Flat experiment into a story far bigger than it actually is?

TWO MORE PROFITABLE MONTHS ADDED TO 2026.

51 of the last 72 months have been profitable ones.

No hiding the losers. No dressing up poor days. Just disciplined staking, patience and a consistent focus on finding the right opportunities.

Now onto September.
