I was lucky enough to go to the Langan’s 50th Birthday celebration last week. They have a great little cigar terrace, and I took the opportunity to smoke the St Luis Rey Belicosos Edición Regional Alemania. This is a 2025 German regional edition. I’ve not had too many from the SLR portfolio, so I was looking forward to trying this one. It’s an impressive-looking Campanas. The cut revealed a wide-open draw. The light I got lots of creamy smoke with sweet pine, herbal, and cedar notes. Delicious and reminded me very much of the SLR La Cuna I tried earlier in the year; I get the same pine forest flavour. The second third was more of the same, with some nutty and cocoa notes joining the fray. This stick is in the medium category, and in the final third, the woodiness really shines through. I’m still getting the creamy herbal notes, which are joined by a hint of spice. I greedily smoked this and found myself wishing it was a No.2 size. I enjoyed this with a couple of Amaretto Sours and an Alabama slammer.

Finally got round to trying a Tatuaje cigar and I chose the RC No. 2 to sample first. This is a nice looking stick. The RC stands for “Retro Cuba” and this Nicaraguan cigar is inspired by the golden age of Cuban ci**rs. It has a lovely pig tail, always a bonus with me, and two bands. The light produces a mild strength with woody, almond and a subtle caramel sweetness. As the cigar progresses I get more of the woodiness come through and the cigar settles to a more medium profile. The subtle sweetness is present throughout the cigar. The final third and the woodiness is even more prominent there’s a toasty nuttiness. A great first experience of Tatuaje and look forward to trying some more.

Following a Cohiba Siglo IV is always a tough act but the Partagas Serie E No. 2 was more than up to the task. This Duke from Partagas has a lovely oily wrapper. The smoke is creamy and plentiful. Earthy, meaty, cocoa, black pepper, woody, salty, leather notes throughout. Enjoyed with a lovely Dalmore 12 year. A great end to a wonderful night.

Headed down to the wonderful Soho Wh**ky with some dear friends to celebrate good news, passed courses, new jobs and even a house completion! Such good news required a special cigar and what could be better than a Cohiba! Namely a Cohiba Siglo IV! I pulled it from the tubos and marvelled at the beauty of the caramel brown wrapper. I cut the cigar and the cold draw was wide open and rich. I was looking forward to smoking this. The light didn’t disappoint sweet grass, creamy, woody, rich, toasted almonds, a honey like sweetness and a white pepper note on the retro. Wow! The second third is more of the same with some chocolate and woodiness. The cigar is in the medium camp towards the end of the second third and into the final third I get a cherry note, some cocoa and woody oak. The cigar remained smooth throughout.
I paired this cigar with a Dalmore 12 year it’s smooth rich and has a sweetness that goes extremely well with the stick.
As with all Cohibas you pay a massive premium to have one but they are so good!

I purchased the El Pulpo San Andreas as a bit of a joke due to a friends nickname I couldn’t resist. It has a dark wrapper and an amusing gold octopus on the front. The light bought notes of dark chocolate and earth. This is a spicy cigar and the retro almost bought a tear to the eye! The second third yields a stone fruit note and pepper. The earth and the dark chocolate remain until the end.
I didn’t have much in the way of expectations for this cigar but I was pleasantly surprised

A throwback to last week and enjoying a Juan Lopez Finos Exclusivo Países Bajos under the Corfu sun. The Finos is a Netherlands regional and is quite a rare Vitola in the Cuban inventory and takes much skill to roll. The slender cigar is topped with a pigtail and looks fantastic. I took advantage of the good weather to use a match to light the stick. I’m immediately hit with lovely biscuit, toasted almonds, cedar and milk chocolate notes. A great start. The construction is fantastic on this cigar the burn line incredibly sharp and the ash holds on admirably. Onto the second third and I get a lovely fruitiness develop with a hint of white pepper to complements the biscuit and chocolate notes. The fruitiness continues into the final third and the woodiness intensifies. This is a very nice cigar and certainly one of the best regionals I’ve had.

I went to the Lanesborough for dinner a couple of months ago so of course I had to check out The Garden Room and the chance to indulge in a fine cigar. The service was impeccable. The sommelier incredibly knowledgeable and they have an impressive array of ci**rs and some very special rare sticks. The Sommelier informed me that this is going to be turned into a cafe soon and the cigar option will revert back to inside. This made me glad to experience it while I could. The seats are comfy and there was a lovely vibe. I chose a Montecristo Linea 1935 Maltes. This place isn’t cheap but what cigar establishment is these days. Very enjoyable.
