Forest Wines

Forest Wines We are an independent local wine shop in Walthamstow, E17. Specialising in organic and natural wines, craft beer and selected spirits.

We came to create Forest Wines because the local wine shop we wanted did not exist in Walthamstow. We were after a place that would offer drinks for every occasion - simple wines for the everyday table, great wines for those special occasions, and craft beers and selected spirits for everything in between. We wanted a place that’s a product of passion, where we could stop by and pick up a bottle o

n our way from work, chat to someone who knows their products, and get a sense of a local community. We created Forest Wines to be all that. We source our wines from the ‘Old World’ - France, Italy, and Spain. But we also like to offer our customers something out of the usual range, from less known regions and countries like Georgia and Austria. When it comes to beers we focus on the great craft beer being produced in East London, with one from Walthamstow’s own micro-brewery, The Wild Card, we are also preparing a small selection of craft beers from France, soon to hit our shelves. Majority of our wines are natural, either organically or biodynamically produced, fermented with indigenous yeast, and made with a minimum interventions from the picking in the vineyard all the way to the bottle. We are simply after quality, natural produce and diversity. We taste and carefully select all our wines before they go on our shelves. We really treat our selection of wines as if we were stocking up our own wine racks, so everything you find in our shop is wine and beer we would happily drink ourselves. Thanks to all the testing and tasting we are here to help you navigate through the maze of ‘natural wines’, ‘terroirs’ & ‘food pairing’ - whatever the occasion just drop in and see us on Forest Road, E17. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to call us at the the shop. We have big plans for future and hope to share our passion with all of you in and around Walthamstow with home deliveries on two wheels, regular wine tastings and online shop.

Maupertuis Pink Bulles Pet Nat
Jean Maupertuis tends just 3.5 hectares in the Auvergne entirely by himself, in one of France’s most overlooked wine regions. The Pink Bulles is what his fans come back for without fail: pale pink-orange, fine bubbles, stony strawberry, mineral and dangerously moreish. One-off shipment. Very limited stock. If you’ve been waiting for the right May bottle - this is it.

The Reds You Can Drink Cold.
Yes, Really.
May is that awkward in-between moment: warm enough to want something light and refreshing, but not quite committed enough to rosé. This is where chilled reds come in. Low tannin, full of fruit, and genuinely brilliant straight from the fridge.

♦️Château Picoron Tattarrattat♦️
Carbonic Merlot from Saint-Emilion, Bordeaux - yes, really. The Australian family behind Picoron have taken one of the world’s most serious wine regions and made something genuinely fun with it. Bouncy red fruit, sour cherry, and a slight natural fizz that makes it perfect straight from the fridge.

♦️Fattoria di Sammontana Alberese♦️
A gorgeous Tuscan find. Made from Sangiovese with the same low-intervention approach you find across our shelves, the Alberese is earthy, vibrant and beautifully structured for a chilled red. Italy does not always shout about this style, but it should.

♦️Sergio Arcuri Vino Rosso Top!♦️
From a fourth-generation family winery on the Ionian coast, this is made from Gaglioppo - one of Italy’s oldest noble varieties, rumoured to have been the wine given to winners of the ancient Olympic Games. Fresh, light and full of perfumed herb and cherry, with a chalky texture and a salty coastal edge. Brilliant chilled.

♦️Claus Preisinger Puszta Libre♦️
Preisinger’s love letter to Beaujolais, made from Zweigelt and Sankt Laurent on the shores of Lake Neusiedl (Austria). Juicy, crunchy and criminally easy to drink - it even says “serve chilled” on the label, in case you needed permission. One of those bottles that just disappears.

Something special to kick off a new week: Sancerre
If you want to see Sauvignon Blanc at its most mineral, precise and food-friendly, Sancerre is still one of the best places to look. Think: citrus, chalk, freshness, structure and great for food pairing.

We recommend it with: goat’s cheese, seafood, asparagus, or even roast chicken.

Homegrown heroes
A guide to English wine
We’ve chosen three producers who are doing things their own way:

Tillingham 📍East Sussex
Tucked into the hills just outside Rye with views stretching to the English Channel, Tillingham is one of those places that feels like it shouldn’t quite exist - a biodynamic farm making genuinely wild, expressive wines using everything from Georgian clay pots to French oak barrels. Winemaker Salvatore Leone works with 21 different grape varieties, which tells you everything you need to know about the ambition here.

Matt Gregory 📍Leicestershire
A former wine merchant who spent 20 years selling other people’s bottles before finally making his own - Matt Gregory farms a tiny three-hectare plot at the highest point of the Leicestershire Wolds, on soils that are 200 million years old. That Jurassic limestone shows up in every glass: mineral, precise and unlike anything you’d expect from the English Midlands.

Titch Hill 📍West Sussex
Alex and Sam met at Plumpton wine college, and ended up planting vines on the farm Alex’s family has worked for generations - less than ten kilometres from the Sussex coast. Chalk soils, sea air and a nothing-added approach to winemaking. It’s a young project, but the wines already feel like they’ve been here forever.

This week we’re drinking outside
(you should too)

If you’ve been in the shop recently, you’ve probably seen a lot of pet nat on the shelves: and spring is exactly the time to drink them.

Pet nat (short for pétillant naturel) is one of the oldest ways of making sparkling wine. The wine is bottled before fermentation is finished, which creates natural bubbles in the bottle.

The results? Sparkling wines that feel light and refreshing, slightly cloudy, less polished than Champagne, more fun and more alive.

They’re great for: At the park on a sunny afternoon or an al fresco lunch.
