Back to school
Visiting Hungary is always fantastic. Meeting up with our wonderful winemakers and discovering new wines and new wineries. Last month I was privileged to attend the Hungarian Wine Summit, gaining further indepth knowledge with delegates from all over the world, meeting up with old friends and new.
Did you know:

*There are over 12,000 wineries in Hungary

* Approx 2,000 small family wineries – this is the sector that we at Malux champion.

*Total export 1,27 hl

*The UK is the 5th largest importer of Hungarian wines, after Slovakia, Germany, Czech Republic and France.
Yes that’s right

What makes Hungarian wine so good and special?
The unique native grapes or the rich volcanic soil?
Yes, true, but foremost it’s the people; their passion, dedication and progressive approach. The lessons learnt from a turbulent history and a zest for a sustainable, innovative and bright wine future.

It’s International FURMINT day! Furmint is Hungary’s most well known indigenous white grape variety. It’s super flexible, extremely user friendly, great with or without food. Can be made dry or sweet. Furmint has varying flavour profiles depending on exactly where it grows.
Our Pajzos Megyer Furmints have a unique tropical edge being from the area of Sarospatak in Tokaj.
The un oaked best selling Megyer dry Furmint is zippy with aromas of white flowers, lychee and pear and flavours of green apples and white peaches. The oaked dry Pajzos selection is rich and deep with red apples and spice.
Furmint is of course a key grape in sweet Tokaj.

However you like your Furmint, we’ve got you!
Try some today, put it on your shopping list.

Did you know Furmint contains Q10 ? Q10 is an antioxidant, linked to preventing cellular damaged re ageing and some diseases.

International Tokaj Aszu Day 10th Dec.
Golden, concentrated, incredibly well balanced, luscious and rich.
We are thrilled that our Pajzos Tokaji Aszu 6 puttonyos is currently paired at Heston Blumenthal’s 3 Michelin star restaurant The Fat Duck, with the incredible Botrytis Cinera; an iconic dish created, apparently with over 80 ingredients, 55 stages, taking 2 weeks, mastered by 8 chefs. Thank you
An amazing pairing with this unique wine, which has won various prestigious awards including Gold Decanter and Gold Vinagora. Four different grape varieties, harvested by hand over a number of weeks, only when each individual grape was ready for picking. Aged in Hungarian oak barrels for 42 months and then continues developing in its bottle. Naturally sweet, Aszu wines perfectly celebrate life’s complexity and balance.
To find out more and discover the rest of our Tokaj range, dry and sweet, including the perfect 250ml gift size 5 puttonyos, contact us.
