As we head into autumn we’re happy to announce that we have teamed up with Cornwall-based potter, Shannon Bartlett-Smith. Shannon has created these elegant wheel-thrown, stoneware wine cups, each one unique, stamped with a Scarlet Wines mark and with a little dimple on the side that feels wonderful in the hand and ensures you won’t spill a drop. They’re made sustainably from Cornish Clay, using a glaze that enhances minerals in the clay such as quartz, iron and slate.

We love these for rich Reds, brandy, whisky and port. Perfect around the campfire.

A limited number are available on our website now. And if you scroll to the bottom of our homepage you’ll find a blog which tells you more about Shannon’s pottery.

What are you drinking this weekend? We’ve recently tried the Waterkloof Boreas, one of our ‘what we’re drinking’ selection.

This is very special. From the top flight Waterkloof this is a blend of Cab Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. The coolness of the vineyard shows as real elegance but there is power too alongside a wonderfully complex nose with cedar and spice. Best decanted for a couple of hours.
It would keep for 10-15 years but that would require more restraint than we can muster!

This is their first blended red that carries the Waterkloof name; explained better in their own words: “We make wine under the Waterkloof label, only when one of our vineyard blocks on The Schapenberg offers up something extraordinary…”.

We have some news; after 14 years at the Old Forge the Scarlet Wines shop in Lelant is closing its doors permanently on Christmas Eve this Year, 2023. It’s a sad moment and I’d thank to each and every customer who has supported us over the years and all the wonderful staff who have helped us grow into what we have become; but it is NOT the end, far from it! We will still have all our wines, beers & spirits on our website that you can order and we’ll deliver - free to TR26, and only £3 to slightly further out. All you have to do is visit our website and peruse, then wait for us to come to you.

In the meantime, for the last two months of 2023, we need to clear some stock, so we have a fantastic offer: 20% off a selection of lovely wines - some real bargains. You can find this by popping into the shop, open 12 to 5pm Wednesday to Saturday, or buy online. Link in story…
