New commissions always start with a design concept, which is refined into a design for approval by the customer. After any tweaks, it’s time for the wood to become the star. In this case, some lovely 40mm thick Scottish spalted Beech, supplied by , which has The Isle of Man and the TT course hidden inside.

Brass inlay process.
I’ve been asked by many people to put together a *long* brass wire inlay video. So here it is! Just under 20 mins of closeup’s of my fingers and various tools inlaying brass into Terrain Blocks.

The route channel carved in the wood is 2mm deep, 1mm wide. Which allows enough space for adhesive and wood variations and movement to hold the 0.8mm square brass wire. Sometimes it’s straightforward, other times…not so much. I only need to heat to the brass when the route bends and twists lots

We include a little stand with Terrain Blocks, angling it up just a touch for display. The base attaches to the Terrain Block with a little magnet, and a hidden metal plate in the Block itself.

It’s not all wood chips and brass here at Fonnwood central in Golspie. Someone* has to take Terrain Block customer order...
