The waggle dance is used by honeybees to communicate about food sources (eg flowers rich in nectar or pollen), water or new nest sites. The dance comprises 2 parts: the waggle and the loop(s). The direction of the waggle tells other worker bees in the hive the direction of the forage in relation to the sun, the duration of the waggle indicates the distance. After the waggle, the bee loops back to the start, alternating direction so that she performs a figure of eight, and performs the waggle again. See how the nearby bees are paying close attention, once they decode what she's telling them they trundle off to go and find it. Aren't bees amazing? 🐝💕

Such a privilege to have an early viewing of this gorgeous installation at Exeter Cathedral today. The photos don't do it justice, but 1,000 beeswax "votives" suspended in the nave, each hand crafted by someone in our community as an act of thanksgiving. So evocative 😊 💕

After a full day of extracting the first of this year's gorgeous spring honey, the wax honey cappings are in their mesh bag to strain the last of the honey before I clean and filter the wax, and send it to the lab for testing to ensure it's perfect grade for making beeswax skincare products 🐝💕
