This Saturday these producers are joining us on the table in Cheltenham 🙌

Start with a glass of Simonsig's Cuvée Royale Cap Classique, South Africa's answer to Ch*****ne, then work your way round the Cape. Ask Richard about any bottle on the table, he has tasted every one.

This Saturday we are heading to Cheltenham W**e Festival with a table full of South African w**es, every one personally chosen by Richard 🍷

As well as over 250 w**es from suppliers like ourselves, there will be a great selection of cheese and charcuterie. The festival is run by the Rotary Club of Cheltenham North with every penny of profit going to charity. They have raised over £50,000 across the last six festivals, which is a great reason to raise a glass (not that we need an excuse).

Two sessions on Saturday 31st October, 12pm to 3pm and 4pm to 7pm, at the Cheltenham Ladies' College Fitness Centre on Malvern Road. Tickets are £25, advance only, and include all your samples, a glass and the festival catalogue.

The Oxford W**e Festival opens this evening and at 6.30pm Richard hosts Neighbours, Not Twins: Stellenbosch and Paarl, a mountain apart. It sold out, so if you have a seat, we will see you there.

For everyone else, Carlo Suter from Eight Gates is with us tonight. Try his Cinsault and ask him how it was made.

Most of the w**e you drink, you never get to ask the person who made it a single question. This weekend in Oxford, you can.

Carlo Suter, w**emaker at Eight Gates W**e, has come over from South Africa for The Oxford W**e Festival and is with us on both days.

On Saturday at 2.30pm he hosts The Cooper's Hand: Balancing Oak, Fruit, and Place. A cooper is the person who makes the barrels, and this is an hour on how a w**emaker weighs oak against fruit and a sense of where the grapes were grown. Four Eight Gates w**es, tasted with the man who made them:

Chenin Blanc 2024, Tulbagh Cinsault 2024, Breedekloof Pinotage, Breedekloof Reserve Red Blend 2023, Stellenbosch

Aaldering Vineyards & W**es - Luxury Lodges - 4 w**es, including the Florence Chenin Blanc and Florence Pinotage Rosé.
The Ahrens Family - 4 w**es, including Terroir Kwarts van die Paarl from 1977 vines.
Bellevue W**e Estate - 4 w**es, from the Estate Malbec to the Reserve Cabernet Franc.
Simonsig Family Vineyards - 3 w**es, two Cap Classiques and an off-dry Gewürztraminer.
Kleingranietw**es - 3 w**es, including the No.42 Mourvèdre and a Sauvignon Blanc from 1985 vines.
Ridgeback W**es, South Africa - 3 w**es, including the Natural Sweet Viognier.
Fuselage W**es - 2 w**es, Staggerwing Chenin Blanc from 1974 vines and Staggerwing Cinsault from 1954 vines.
Schultz Family W**es - 2 w**es, the Heldervue Chardonnay and Pepper Street Solid Syrah.

Four of those w**es come from vineyards planted between 1954 and 1985, all still producing. Ask us which ones, and put at least one of them on your list of ten.
