We also want to wish the best of luck to our very own Ben Kettyles and all involved with Fermanagh Musical Theatre - who will perform the Stephen Schwartz musical ‘Godspell’ in St. Michael’s Church, Enniskillen, next Tuesday and Wednesday (7th and 8th April).

After testing the waters of musical theatre before Christmas as Joseph in ELO’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Ben has well and truly caught the bug and will now perform as Jesus in this upcoming production with FMT.

A number of former Lakeland Players form part of the cast, and we are delighted to see young talent on full show in the local community.

Godspell, written by Stephen Schwartz (best known for writing the hit musical ‘Wicked’) is based on Matthew’s Gospel, and through a largely rock music score shows the formation of Jesus’ group of 12 apostles, culminating in the Passion story. The musical will be performed in the church, appropriately at Easter, and should be a wonderful spectacle in beautiful surroundings.

There is truly something for everyone in this show, and the talent on show across the cast is second to none. We truly urge you to get your tickets for what promises to be an unforgettable theatre experience - you won’t regret it!!

We want to wish the absolute best of luck to our longtime cast member Ryan Moohan, as he puts on a special few nights of theatre in the Ardhowen tomorrow (Thursday) and Saturday.

This night will encompass two one act plays, with the first part of the night featuring an original piece written and conceived by Ryan himself. ‘2 Friends and Social Anxiety’ will be performed by Ryan and well known local actress (and former Lakeland Player!) Nadia Stenson.

The second part of the evening will show members of Ryan’s TeaForTwo Theatre Company perform the classic farce ‘Black Comedy’ - featuring some more familiar faces to Lakeland Players audiences, including Wayne Moohan, Sarah Shannon and our choreographer Shauneen Hamilton!

Ryan has experience spanning local productions, professional touring, as well as the Edinburgh Fringe where ‘2 Friends and Social Anxiety’ received its premiere! This is sure to be a night of humour, comedy chaos and the debut of a bold new theatre company which will bring energy, creativity and community spirit to the spotlight.

Ryan has been doing great work locally through this new venture, including running adult drama classes in the Ardhowen over the last number of weeks - make sure to keep an eye on the Tea For Two Theatre Company page for more upcoming events and initiatives.

Best of luck Ryan with the new venture - we urge you all to get tickets for these shows and support local theatre!

The Lakeland Players are devastated to have to write this statement regarding the loss of one of our own, our beloved Ellie.

Ellie was a shining light in our group, and was someone who had the ability to brighten up any room as soon as she entered it. Our show each year and being part of our group was such a huge element of Ellie’s life, and her enthusiasm and infectious energy made her a perfect example of what we all strive to be in the Lakeland Players. Ellie was a fixture of our group for her whole life, joining the chorus at the earliest opportunity and more recently taking on her definitive role of the Fairy Godmother, a role which she embodied so well and undeniably made her own. Indeed, her dedication to the group was so much so that she arrived to the first rehearsal for this year’s show knowing all of her own lines, as well as everyone else’s.

There are no words we can use at the moment to describe the hurt and loss being felt across our group, but this pales into insignificance in comparison to the unimaginable loss which has been suffered by Ellie’s mother Karen, her grandparents Attracta and Roger, her dear auntie Marian, all her extended family and her many friends and colleagues. Our sincere condolences also go out to all Ellie’s work colleagues at Little Foxes Playgroup and all connected with the Flanagan and Haggins families.

We gathered as a group this evening to remember Ellie, and an evening which began with sorrow and sadness grew into a gathering where we shared memories, laughter and the songs Ellie loved so much. This is exactly how we know Ellie would have wanted it to be, and it became clear that Ellie will be remembered as she lived, full of joy and happiness.

Ellie was, above all, the most kind and gentle soul anyone could hope to meet, who was so full of life and joy. We are all better for having had her in our lives, and we will all hold dear so many fond memories of our time with her. In her short life, she left an indelible mark on so many.

She will forever be our Fairy Godmother.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.

After much lead up and preparation, what an absolutely brilliant night we all had on Saturday in the Westville celebrating 40 years of the group.

There are so many people to thank for engineering such a successful night, not least our fantastic organising Committee who you will see pictured below.

To the Cassidy family for all their help and generosity and to all the staff at the Westville Hotel for a night that ran so smoothly, with a beautiful meal to boot. This was the perfect venue for our celebration.

To Conor Lunny of Lunny imaging for capturing the night so beautifully with everyone looking their best. Conor and the Lunny family have been great supporters of our group over the years - and we thank him for the lovely memories he has provided us with through these photos.

To Infinity - who had us dancing non-stop from as soon as they hit the stage! We couldn’t have asked for a better band to accompany our celebration.

To our MC for the evening, our very own Ugly Sister, Julian Fowler, who presented an in depth history of the group with equal parts comedy and sentimentality.

On a night where it felt so appropriate and fitting to celebrate those who were instrumental in the early development of the Lakeland Players, we made a few special presentations on the night to some of our longest-standing members and marked the occasion by honouring Michael Carney with the role of Honorary President of the group.

There are so many other people we have to thank for making the night such a special occasion for everyone present, not least those listed below who donated prizes, room decor and food and drink. Your generosity and support does not go unnoticed!
