On October 10, on the occasion of attending the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related summits in Vientiane (Laos), Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

At the meeting, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the two sides will more effectively exploit opportunities for economic, trade and investment cooperation; promote defense cooperation, enhance labor training cooperation; support small and medium enterprises, gender equality, poverty reduction, protection of women's and children's rights, response to climate change, food security; and effectively exploit the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

Early conclusion of ASEAN-Canada FTA negotiations

At the ASEAN-Canada Special Summit on promoting connectivity and resilience, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau affirmed his determination to work with ASEAN to complete negotiations on the ASEAN-Canada Free Trade Agreement (FTA) by 2025, bringing practical benefits and prosperity to the people.
At the same time, Canada will continue to effectively implement its cooperation commitments and priorities, such as the CAD 24 million Canadian Trade Gateway initiative in Southeast Asia, as well as effectively disburse the CAD 1 million ASEAN-Canada Trust Fund for bilateral cooperation programs and projects.
